The Schetch Book（2）
Children's Life In Mountains
April 14 will be another day in my life that will not be easily forgotten.
We, a team of 48, left our coach in Yinghao Hotel in Yu County and got on 8 SUVs, the Land Rover, because the road to the Guozhuangzi Complete Primary School is not wide enough. I did not think that much for I could guess it!
But what occurred next gave me shocks!!!
--- the washed out way
Guozhuangzi Complete Primary School lies deep inside the mountains, the joint of three famouse mountains , Heng Mountain, Taihang Mountain and Yan Mountain. It is the best time to drive into the mountains. We can never do this if it is summer or winter. The surging flood, 4 to 5 depth of water, and the heavy snow , 50 centimeters, will stop your way! There is a saying there which goes like this:" Never ever go to the Shimenyu after noon." The reason is because of the constantly changeable weather in mountains.
Students inside the off-road vehicles were shocked at the beautiful mountains up there but they paid less attention at the road down. The fact was that there was no road, just blocks of concret，moved to the other side by the flood, or even buried by stones.
Life for the kids in this school is hard. The whole cost for three meals for each one is 8 yuan. They pay five and the government pays another 3 yuan as subsidy. "How much do you pay for one meal?", I asked my students around me. They seemed to realize something, although they did not give me the answer.
---the bean works
Kids in the mountains are creative. They have no crayons or paintbrushes but they have their own hands! Many works that are made by colourful beans are shown in the small exhibition room. The vivid rooster and the caterpiller are the most beatiful ones in my mind!
The game they played when we entering their school campus threw me back to my childhood. It was not called a romantic game but one they had to play for fun. It was a game needing no special facility. They drew a few boxes on the ground and started to play! How many children are playing this game nowaday? And why? I asked myself.
---carrying water by cart
The local government did help the school to dig a well nearby but the waterpipes are now frozen so they drag their cart to carry water from a pond every day. It is late April but it is still cold there, Willow trees are just beginning to become green. That's why small stoves are found in the classrooms.
---what to give?
The books we bought for them, the basketballs we got for them, the badmintons, the pens, pencils and pencilsboxes we took for them, the backpacks we donated for them... became a huge pile. But it is a tiny hill before the mountain. Only our drum play and our students' classroom activities can bring love to them!
Learn from the kids in the mountains! I remembered another saying:" Children from poor families tend to manage affairs in advance!!!"
