Shijiazhuang & Sijiazhuang 石家庄和寺家庄
The 11th Jizhiguang(冀之光），a foreign students’ performance was held in Hebei Normal University and again their wonderful Chinese show attracted me. The young are from 14 different universities in Hebei for their further education and they are involved in the life here. So in their spare time they learn Peking Opera, Chinese martial arts, Chinese calligraphy, cross talk and even pop songs like 《刚好遇见你》and 《可惜不是你》. They are the good ambassadors to let the world know not only the Chinese friendship and hospitality but also the Chinese culture we value! It might even enhance their appreciation for their second home---China.
Just before the talent show I had a chat with a leader near my seat and when she told me that she is from Sijiazhuang I murmured that she is local. “No”, she said to me. “I come from Sijiazhaung, a nearby village in Luquan County. I got to know that it is a huge village because it has over 6,000 villagers and in ancient times there were people living here but no one knows the name of the village then. Then 1487 a temple was built in the north of the village and countless people poured to prey here so the name was named Sijiazhuang.
